Dang it, if we don’t love this job. It’s tough. It seems like every day takes everything we’ve got. Animal care means nights, weekends, holidays, heat waves and ice storms. We’re out in the worst of it trying to give our best.
But most of us are second-, third- or fourth-generation dairy farmers. A lot of dairying parents tell their kids to pick another career, something easier, something more stable. And a lot of dairy kids grow up to do just that.
Those of us who stay, it’s ‘cause we can’t stand to leave.
Anyway, the world needs food. So here we are.
